Bone Marrow Register

The Irish Unrelated Bone Marrow Registry.

Invest in life
could you be a bone marrow donor?

The Irish Unrelated Bone Marrow Registry was established in 1989 to provide unrelated bone marrow donors for patients in need of a bone marrow transplant. There are 24,000 volunteers on the panel (May 2009)
who are willing to be searched as potential bone marrow donors for patients.

Who can register as a bone marrow donor?
You can register as a volunteer to join the panel if you are a blood donor between the ages of 18 and 45 with no back complaints, i.e. disc or ligament problems and if you fit within the height and weight criteria. It is not essential to be a blood donor; however, the medical requirements to join the registry are similar to blood donation. All volunteers will be retired from the panel at the age of 55 years. GivingForLivfingLogo Joining the registry will not prevent you continuing as a blood donor. This blood sample may be taken at the same time as a blood donation at scheduled blood clinics nationwide. Application forms to join the panel are available at the blood clinics nationwide. For more information you can contact
