EVENTS ROUND-UP
EVENTS ROUND-UP 2008
Each year support for events organised on our behalf grows, and this year was no exception - read for yourselves how our spirited, energetic eventers, trekked, ran, cycled and walked and generally pulled out all the stops to raise money for Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust.
Roundwood Leukaemia Challenge
This year Mary Cullen and her Roundwood Committee will celebrate 25 years fundraising on our behalf. Over the years they have held a Dinner Dance & Car Raffle, done Supermarket collections and in recent years the annual Roundwood Leukaemia Challenge has taken off and become a huge success. This challenging event starts in Glenmalure, through Glendalough and Brocagh and finally finishes at Lough Dan. Funds raised last year amounted to €50,000.
If you would like to take part in this event contact:
Trek Thru the Ring

Roundwood Biathlon
The Annual Roundwood Biathlon, organised by Joe & Janet Kavanagh takes place each year on 27 December. If you are ever looking for something
to do to shift that Christmas excess don your walking boots or get up on your
bike and head to Roundwood, Co Wicklow.
This year Joe & Janet presented us with a cheque for €9,590.
The Aaron Gaffney Cycling Challenge
Aaron Gaffney, his family and friends have cycled, for the past 4 years from Tinnecarraig, Co Wexford to St James’s Hospital, Dublin, on the June Bank Holiday. On their route they have collectors shaking buckets in each town they pass through. They also organise their own fundraising nights in Tinnecarraig.
Aaron, a successful transplant recipient himself is completely dedicated to this cycle and leads it all the way.
Friends take great leap in memory of Alex Figueiredo coffey.
TWO South Kerry friends, Geraldine Stapleton and Ciara Scanlon, braved a 15,000-foot sky dive in New Zealand on 6 January 2008 to raise funds. The sky dive was inspired by the late Alex Figueiredo Coffey, Inchiclogh, Caherciveen, who was diagnosed with leukaemia on 10 August last year and died shortly afterwards. Alex did a sky dive herself in New Zealand in 1999 and the girls took their inspiration from this. They raised almost €8,000.
