The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. We wish to be transparent on how we process your data and show you that we are accountable with the GDPR in relation to not only processing your data but ensuring you understand your rights as a client.

Who are we?

The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust (BMLT) is a registered charity in Ireland as CHY 9693 with its office at the Hope Directorate, St. James’s Hospital, Dublin 8  bmlt@stjames.ie

The BMLT is a totally voluntary trust which supports all aspects of bone marrow transplantation in St James’ Hospital Dublin. The BMLT does NOT receive any funds from the HSE or any government agency and relies totally on charitable donations.

The BMLT is committed to protecting the privacy of people who use our services, fundraisers, business partners, and other third parties we deal with, such as family members.  This Privacy Statement details how the BMLT collects, uses, discloses, transfers and stores your personal information. It applies to personal data

about you that we collect, use and otherwise process in connection with your relationship with the BMLT

Purpose for processing your data

The BMLT will only collect and process personal information where it has a legal basis for doing so. This includes where the BMLT is providing a service to you or fulfilling a care facility contract with you, where the BMLT has to comply with a legal duty, where  you consent to the collection and use, where the BMLT has a legitimate interest in collecting and processing the personal information, or where the processing is necessary for the public interest. When personal information is processed, the basis of processing will be in accordance with relevant Irish and EU data privacy laws, our legal obligations and to meet our information security requirements.

  • We record the contact and transactional details on a database in order to manage our supporter relationships.
  • Your donation will be recorded for audit purposes and retained on the BMLT donor database.
  • In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.

From time to time we would like to send you updates on the impact of your support and let you know about our fundraising events and campaigns and other areas of our work in which you might be interested. If you are not happy to receive these updates please email bmlt@stjames.ie to indicate your preference.

Why are we processing your data? Our legal basis

The BMLT uses personal information that we have collected from you in order to:

  • provide you with a more tailored and effective service;
  • communicate with you through certain mandatory service communications such as welcome/thank you letters, reminders and our terms and conditions;
  • ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and applicable law;
  • provide updates and newsletters, an invitation to events:
  • to let you know ways you can get involved in our fundraising and campaigns;
  • when you are making a donation, registering for a campaign or event, as appropriate, you may be asked to provide personal details such as name, email address, postal address, phone number or payment information as needed;
  • prevent fraud;
  • market our services and products to you where the BMLT has a legitimate interest or you have consented to us doing so and in accordance with your preferences;

How will BMLT use the personal data it collects about me?

The BMLT will process (collect, store and use) the information you provide in a manner compatible with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We will endeavor to keep your information accurate and up to date, and not keep it for longer than is necessary.

Personal information such as names, addresses, emailaddresses, telephone numbers,and other personal data relating to services that we are providing to you will only be collected from users of the website (www.bonemarrowtrust.ie) who voluntarily input such information.
